Our mission
Banking belongs in business software
Many software companies already serve small businesses incredibly well: helping them send invoices, run payroll, manage inventory, and more. They’re on a mission to become the central hub for managing every aspect of business life.
But when it comes to financial workflows, there’s still a gap. Too many critical tasks like managing cash flow, tracking payments, or reconciling accounts happen outside the software, across spreadsheets, email threads, banking portals.
It’s a missed opportunity. Business software shouldn’t just record financial activity — it should run it.

Job description
Swan is seeking a talented, fast-moving, and driven Technical Writer to join our Documentation team on a freelance basis. We're a team of ambitious individuals driven by clear communication and a passion for continuous improvement.
We tackle complex challenges collaboratively, and our team plays a crucial role in ensuring our partners, their users, and our internal teams can effortlessly leverage our cutting-edge product. Our team owns a diverse range of content, including technical product documentation, localised help centre articles, engaging partner e-learning, intuitive UX writing, and vital partner communications.
As a Technical Writer at Swan, you won't just write; you'll be a key enabler of our product's success, directly impacting user adoption and satisfaction.
✨ Your mission
As a Technical Writer, you will develop and refine a wide range of content across Swan's documentation ecosystem. You are a highly driven go-getter who moves fast, balances multiple project schedules, and proactively collaborates across teams to deliver a unified, user-centric content journey.
Your core responsibilities include:
Docs-as-code production and migration:
Write and maintain content directly in a docs-as-code workflow (Git, Markdown/MDX).
Migrate existing content, such as help centre articles, into version-controlled repositories with peer review.
Full content creation: Independently write clear, accurate content for moderately complex features across various asset types—including user guides, help centre articles, and UI copy.
Smart tool and AI workflow execution: Responsibly use approved AI tools to improve workflow efficiency, leveraging your strong editorial eye to ensure all final content is high-quality, accurate, and human.
Proactive collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Implementation teams to gather requirements, manage project expectations, and ensure absolute accuracy.
Process and tool optimisation: Utilise our core tools (Zendesk, CMS, docs-as-code) effectively, suggesting smart improvements to content processes to help streamline the overall team workflow.
Lifecycle and performance tracking: Manage the full lifecycle of individual content assets from creation to publication, and use established dashboards to track and report on your content's performance.
Preferred experience
✨ What makes you a great fit
Experienced technical writer: You have a proven track record in technical writing (typically 3 or more years), with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
Docs-as-code fluency: You're comfortable working in Git and Markdown or MDX, and you've used a docs-as-code workflow before. Experience migrating content across different frameworks is a strong plus.
Strong editorial eye: You can self-edit effectively and review peers' work for correctness. You know the difference between mediocre and excellent writing, ensuring content is clear and engaging for different audiences.
Go-getter mindset: You are proactive and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You gather feedback from users and teams to ensure your content meets audience needs.
Technical and tool literacy: You can independently learn and explain moderately complex technical concepts.
Accessibility and localisation champion: You independently apply established best practices for accessibility and global localisation during content creation.
Growth-minded: You proactively seek out feedback to improve your work, quickly adapt to new tools or processes, and are a reliable, positive team contributor.
It's okay if you don't tick every single box – if you're passionate about creating impactful documentation and believe you have the core skills, we strongly encourage you to apply! 🙌
