Job description
Swan is building the future of embedded banking in Europe. We empower companies to seamlessly integrate banking features into their products through our modern GraphQL API, pre-built front-end components, and comprehensive administration tools. As we scale to serve thousands of businesses and millions of end-users, we're looking for exceptional engineering leaders who want to shape how companies build financial experiences.
✨ Your mission
As our Front-End Engineering Manager, you'll lead a focused, high-impact team of 2 talented engineersworking on the visual face of Swan's platform. Your team operates as a center of excellence across our 70+ engineering organization, partnering closely with product design to deliver interfaces that thousands of developers and millions of end-users interact with daily.This is a player-coach role where you'll spend significant time hands-on with code while building and mentoring your team. You'll have the opportunity to shape our front-end strategy from the ground up, establish engineering practices, and grow your team as Swan scales.
✨ Your responsibilities
Team Leadership (25%)
- Grow and mentor your engineers, providing coaching on both technical skills and career development
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Drive hiring as the team grows, building a diverse and exceptional front-end engineering team
- Conduct performance evaluations and create clear growth paths for your team members
- Balance individual contributor work with management responsibilities as a player-coach
Technical Leadership (30%)
- Make architectural decisions for front-end systems in our demanding technical environment with reactive architecture
- Partner with product managers to shape features and technical roadmaps
- Ensure engineering excellence by establishing and championing technical standards, automated testing, and code quality practices
- Review and approve system designs, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability liaising within senior technical community
- Monitor system performance to maintain quality of service as our platform scales
Delivery & Operations (20%)
- Own roadmap execution, providing clear visibility and progress tracking at scale
- Lead cross-team collaborations, ensuring effective communication among engineering, product, design, and other stakeholders
- Maintain operational excellence in production, including incident response and on-call participation
- Make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, quality, and business impact
Hands-On Technical Work (25%)
- Contribute code regularly through reviews, feature development, and architectural implementations
- Debug production issues and guide the team through complex technical challenges
- Stay current with front-end technologies and bring new ideas to the team

- You have substantial experience as a software developer with deep expertise in front-end engineering, particularly in product-driven environments
- You're highly skilled in React, TypeScript, and GraphQL—these are your daily tools
- You bring a strong UX/UI sensibility and care deeply about user experience
- You write clean, maintainable code and establish patterns that scale
- You stay current with modern front-end technologies and industry best practices
- You've worked in complex environments involving product, QA, security, and platform teams
Leadership & Management
- You have experience leading and mentoring engineers, whether as a formal manager or technical lead
- You excel at coaching team members on technical and professional growth
- You have strong communication skills and can align engineering goals with business priorities
- You know how to balance technical excellence with business pragmatism
- You're comfortable with player-coach dynamics, contributing technically while developing your team
Passion for Building Products
- You're passionate about building great products, demonstrated through open-source contributions, personal projects, or professional work in fintech, Banking as a Service, or regulatory tech
- You understand the business context behind technical decisions
- You think about developer experience as a product itself
- You have a professional level of English (Swan is an international team)
