Job description
Swan is looking for his/her Head of DACH/Northern & Eastern Europe. Based in our Berlin office, this person will be in charge of leading our Berlin team, mostly from a commercial perspective. Besides Germany, a strategic market for Swan, you’ll be in charge of developing Swan in German speaking countries, the Nordics and Eastern Europe countries.
To achieve your goals, you’ll be both selling and leading a team of currently 2 Account Executives and 1 Business Development Representative. We’ll grow this team based on success and emerging needs.
Besides your commercial responsibility, you will be the face of the company for the region. You will publicly embody Swan, eg. at events, on LinkedIn or in the press. Along with our German MLRO (Money Laundering and Reporting Officer), you will also be in charge of our relationships with the German regulatory authorities (aka “die BaFin”).
Lastly, we expect you to lead the Berlin office, today composed of approx. 10 persons. You’ll be the guardian of Swan’s culture in this office!
In summary, this is a hybrid role where you have to act as a leader, for your team and region, and where you can’t afford to be completely hands-off. You need to enjoy acting as an individual contributor, eg. actively hunting, being deeply involved in signing new deals, and sometimes being the lead sales on such deals (and benefiting from the support of your team).
We’re looking for someone with strong business acumen, excited by the challenges of selling. But we’re also looking for a strategic thinker, able to understand our customers’ needs and perform consultative sales while framing this in a broader context to guarantee the long-term success of Swan in these regions.
We need a curious person, willing to learn and comfortable with the technical aspects of our product. We’re also looking for a team player who will partner with our product and compliance teams (among others) to ensure our roadmap entails the main requests of our top prospects and partners in the covered countries, and to constantly improve our onboarding processes.
✨ Your mission

Be accountable for increasing revenue and new client acquisition at high rates of growth
Manage and lead your sales team currently composed of 3 people (2 AEs, 1 BDR), providing guidance, mentorship, and coaching to team members.
Drive people management initiatives, including hiring, performance reviews, ladder improvement, and employee retention.
With the support of our BDR and growth teams, develop outbound strategies to create and nurture opportunities
Develop a consultative and solution-based sales approach to answer our customers needs
Be the internal and external point of contact for our marketing and PR activities in Germany
Build Swan’s offer to tackle new verticals
Be the voice and face of Swan for the region (at events and in the press)
Attend industry events to meet new prospects and spot new opportunities for Swan
Be in charge of relationships with local regulators to make sure Swan correctly meets its requirements
Effectively work cross-functionally across the organization to shape Swan’s solutions to meet customer needs
Preferred experience
✨ Must haves for this role:
- Bilingual in German and professional proficiency in English
- We expect this person to spend a minimum of 3 days per week in our Berlin office
- Demonstrated capacity to sell to large accounts: you know how to approach complex organizations and conduct deals with long sales cycles
✨ You’re a great match if:
6/7+ years of sales experience, preferably selling a technical product in Fintech or Payments
Previous experience in an international / European environment
Passion for startups and new technology businesses
Ability to understand and articulate technical concepts, and translate them into industry- or business-relevant terms
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent team player and fun to work with
